Senator McConnell Voices Concerns Over Partisanship

Says colleagues turning June into “check the box” month.

On Thursday, Senator Mitch McConnell decried his majority party colleagues in the Senate for their role in creating difficulties for future bipartisan action. He said, “the era of bipartisanship is over” because the majority may use June as a month to “check the box” on all their policy goals. The Senate minority leader also expressed concerns over the “radical proposals” being brought to pressure moderate members of the majority to eliminate the filibuster.

Legislators in the majority party do not agree with this assessment on the cause for the breakdown in cooperation in Congress. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that members of the minority party are choosing “the path of obstruction and gridlock.” The minority opposition has used the filibuster two times since the beginning of the current term to halt legislation considered to be too liberal.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That members of Congress would seek God’s guidance as they negotiate legislation.
  • For Senate Majority Leader Schumer to bring measures forward that are good for the country.
  • That Senate Minority Leader McConnell would have discernment in how to work with the majority party.
